A Sample of Recent Adventures in South Dakota.

As we approached the Thor Diesel Owners Club Rally I managed to carve out a day and a half to work on some images.  Something I haven’t managed to do since the end of May – which is REALLY bad.  But essential timing as I head to Anchorage tomorrow morning for a Moose & Northern Lights Workshop with Moose Peterson and buddies from past workshops.

So below is a sample of the new images I have added to my Landscape Portfolio website.  If you find them pleasing please visit the website and see the whole “October’s New Images” category and “share” this blog on Facebook.

The first group is from the 50th Annual Buffalo Round-Up in Custer State Park:

The other shots were from visits to Badlands National Park, South Dakota.

I started by wishing to capture the sense of nobility I find in the Buffalo:

Then moved into my real passion, namely black and white images:

Then I finish with two different sunrises.  The first before the sun had risen above the horizon – I love long exposures in the soft light. The other, a panorama shot on a different day as the sun came above the horizon.

Many Thanks for the kind words folks.

Fred, yes a sky without clouds (I call a bald sky) is utterly boring. So landscapes can be good for black & white by making the sky very dark, or I try and shoot with minimal or no sky (as per my last visit to The Grand Canyon).

Bruce, yes Buffalo are a vey different beast, and it was great o be able to shoot them in the Tall Grass Prairie.

    Yee-Haw!! too.

Richard, I really enjoyed the badlands landscapes especially the ones with the contrasting sky and clouds.

Rita and I love both the buffaloes and the landscapes. They showed something different than anywhere else we’ve been. Inspiring.
    Well done Richard.
